Rain forests are home to more kinds of animals and plants than any other place on the earth. This is because the climate here has stayed the same for almost 100 millions years.
In other parts of the world, the climate has changed many times. Each time there was a big change, many kinds of plants and animals died.
Even if a kind of animal or plant lives through a climate change, it may not survive. Plants and animals need each other to live.
The trees and plants in the rain forests are more than food for animals. They are also homes to many kinds of living things. If the trees die, the animals that depend on them for shelter may also die.
Besides, the rain forests are important because the leaves of the trees and plants act like the earth's lungs. How does this happen?
People and land animals use their lungs to breathe in air They need oxygen to survive. People and animals then breathe out carbon dioxide.
Plants are just_____. They take in carbon dioxide and release(释放) oxygen into the ai. So plants can not only
increase the quantity of oxygen, but also lower the quantity of carbon dioxide which makes the earths temperature become too hot.
Many plants and trees in the rain forests help to remove carbon dioxide from the earth's climate at a comfortable temperature.
Another reason why the rain forests are so important is that they are home to many of the most amazing plants and creatures in the world. Today, scientists believe that they have been able to study only a small number of all rain-forest species(物种).New species are being discovered all the time. ( )63. Rain forests are home to_______.

Are there any ugly cities in your country? One of England's most unattractive is Slough. But why?
For years,Slough has been seen as England’s ugliest city. Poet John Betjeman wrote in his 1937 poem Slough,“ Mess up the mess they call a town!“ If you had a choice of Slough or anywhere else in the area, Slough would be the last town you'd come to", said Dawn Lewis, who used to live there. “I grew up in Slough in the 970s. If you want to know what Slough was like in the 1970s,go there now.”
Lets take a closer look at Slough. The town is about 30 kilometres from central London. It is a heavily, industrialized(工业化的) place full of office blocks. There is a famous area where man ny big companies built office buildings, for example, Amazon. Actually, the UK is full of towns like Slough. The problem is that Slough is surrounded(被围绕)by beautiful villages and pretty market towns, such as Windsor and Maidenhead and even
Eton College. Slough is so ugly compared with its neighbours. People from near Slough avoid it if possible-why go to Slough when you can go to Windsor?
So with all this in mind, it's not as if Slough is a poor area, but it just seems to be unattractive. Its biggest problem is the crime rate( 犯罪率), which is above the average standard in the UK
Now the government is trying to change all that. Recently, it has just agreed to plant more trees in the high street after people complained that it "Wasn't green enough". It has also proudly announced that the city would plan to be part of the Climate Neutral Network(气候中和网络). This network was founded by the United Nations in order to encourage countries and cities to take action and go green. So how will the city look like in the future? We'll have to wait and see.

C. He thought the city was changing for the better D. He moved away from the city later.
( ) 69. Which of the following about Slough is TRUE? A..It's a very poor city.
B. The biggest problem in the city is pollution. C. It was ugly compared with its neighbours.
D. There are not so many big companies in the city.
