M: My briefcase is just like yours, isn’t it?
W: Almost. Mine is smaller, but it doesn’t have a lock. I think I’d rather have had one like yours.

W: I want to give up my job.
M: Why? You just started working there last month.
W: Yeah, but I don’t like my boss. He makes us do stupid things.
M: Like what?
W: We have to write reports every day. Besides, I spend at least an hour a day in meetings.
M: Daisy, that’s part of your job. Give it time and you’ll get used to it.
W: But I feel I’m wasting my time there.
M: Look, the boss is the boss. You’re an employee. If he makes bad

W: Where is it?
M: A street in Hong Kong.

W: Good afternoon, Mr Black. This is Lucy. May I speak to your daughter Ann, please?
M: Sorry, she isn’t in right now. She went out shopping with her mother half an hour ago and they are not back yet.
W: Could you take a message for me, please?
M: Certainly.
W: Thank you. Ann asked me to go to the cinema with her this evening. But I’m afraid I can’t.

W: How long have you been a truck driver, Mr Grey?
M: Just for five years.
W: And you have never had any other jobs?
M: No. I have worked for the same firm since I left university.
W: University? You didn’t take your degree then?
M: Oh, I got a degree and it was quite a good one.
W: But then why did you become a truck driver?
M: The answer is quite simple. I am doing what I want to do.
W: But you don’t make any use of your education that way.

M: Well, most people who take degrees don’t either. They work to make money and to get on in the world. Well, I don’t especially want to get on. Besides, I make enough money to live on. In fact, I make very good use of my education. You see, when I finish work in the evening, I may be physically tired but I am still mentally fresh. I don’t take any problems home with me from the office. I have time for my family. I also have time to read.
Text 10
Some time ago, a friend of mine , who worked in a part of the city I didn’t know very well, invited me to call on him. It took me hours to get there and I took great trouble to find a proper place to park my car. As I was already three quarters late, I parked my car quickly. At noon, just as I was leaving my friend’s office, it suddenly struck me that I had no idea where I had parked my car. I could not find a policeman and tell him that I had lost a small green car somewhere! Walking down street after street, I examined each car closely and was very happy to see a small green car just behind an old one. But how disappointed I was to discover that though the car was exactly like mine, it belonged to someone else! Feeling quite tired, I went off for lunch. Some time later, I left the restaurant and walked down the street. Turning the corner, I nearly jumped for joy: my car was right in front of me, and there was no problem this time. To tell the truth, driving in crowded cities is far from being a pleasure and it is much easier to walk than to drive.
