1.3. Definitions (Words defined are italicized and bolded once per section)Fiber Content: The material used in fabrics to produce the product, includinglinings and interlinings.
Decorative Pattern (design): An integral part of the product, such as a designknitted into the front of a sweater.
Generic Name: Common name of fiber: for example: cotton, rayon, silk, linen,acetate, nylon, and polyester.
Registration Number: An identification number issued by the Federal TradeCommission (FTC) for use on tags and labels instead of the name of themanufacturer.
Trim/Ornamentation: Material added to the basic fabric
2. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
2.1.
The material and country of origin must be on one side of a single label (only onelabel is allowed), and the lettering must be of equal size, clear and conspicuous.For example:
Made of

40% RECYCLED WOOL
EXCLUSIVE OF ORNAMENTATION
Made in U.S.A.”

2.1.1. The manufacturer or registration number may appear on the reverse
side if it is conspicuous and accessible. For example
“Distributed by:John Q. Doe Co., Inc.,
New York, NY.
2.2.
Labels must be firmly affixed to the product as not to become detached during theprocess of distribution and sale to the consumer (a permanent label is notrequired). The Label may be a hangtag or gummed label.Label must have the following information on it:
2.3.1. The name of the manufacturer or marketer or registration number.2.3.2. The name of the country where processed or manufactured.
2.3.3. The generic names and percentages (the % mark must be used) of all
fibers in amounts of 5% or more must be listed in order of predominanceby weight. Fibers present in amounts of less than 5% must be disclosedas “other fiber” or “other fibers” not by their generic name or fibertrademark.
2.3.3.1. The generic name along with Trade names may be used,
acceptable examples are “Dacron polyester”, “Angora RabbitHair”, “Antron nylon” etc.2.3.3.2. Total percentages must not deviate from the percentages stated
on the label by more than 3%. For example, where the labelindicates that a particular fiber is present in the amount of 40%,the amount stated may vary from 37% to 43% of the total fiberweight.2.3.3.3. If a product is entirely made of one fiber i.e. linen, it must be
labeled as “100%” linen or “All linen” not “linen”2.3.3.4. If a product is made up in whole or in part of materials for which
the fiber content is unknown and cannot be accurately
determined, the terms “unknown fibers” “all undetermined fiber”must be used; for example:
100% unknown fibers - rags
All undetermined fibers - textile by-products
2.4.
If decorative trims, patterns or design exceed 15% of the total surface area ofthe product and are of a different fiber content or origin from the basic fabric, thefiber content and/or origin must be separately listed on the label.
2.4.1. If they do not exceed 15% of the total surface area of the product and no
reference is made to the fiber content of the trims, patterns or design, theterm “Exclusive of Decoration” must be used.

The term “Exclusive of Ornamentation” can be used to designate discernible fiberornamentation in a product that does not exceed 5% of the total weight i.e.
“100% nylon
Exclusive of 4% Silk Ornamentation”
2.6.
For products that are sold with several parts, each containing the same fibercontent or origin, only one of the units (main) need to be labeled.
2.6.1. Units with different fiber contents or origin need to be individually labeled.2.6.2. Products that have linings or interlinings must be listed separately i.e.:
“100% Dacron Polyester
Interlining - 100% Dacron Polyester”
2.7. Location
2.7.1. Textile garments with a neck must have the label attached to the center of
the neck midway between the shoulder seams.
All other textiles products must have the label in a place readily seen bythe consumer.
2.7.2. Package must be labeled with the fiber content if the label on the product
cannot be clearly read through the packaging.
